- Audit – Involves performing detailed testing of an entity’s financial records to form an opinion as to whether their financial statements are fairly stated. Often required by regulatory authorities, banks as a condition of substantial loans and preparing for business exits by acquisition among other reasons.
- Review – Entails analytic analysis and management interview to obtain limited assurance as to whether material modifications are likely to be required on the entity’s financial statements. Often required by banks for medium-sized loans and by private investors in closely held companies seeking more reliable financial data to gauge performance.
- Compilation – Involves putting into formal financial statement format the amounts provided by management. No opinion or assurance is provided as to their accuracy. Often required by banks for moderate-sized loans and requested by business owners in order to see their financials in a standardized manner.
- General Accounting Services – Typically involves assisting clients in the maintenance of accurate and reliable records, creating systems to keep those records consistently uniform and free of material errors. Most often required by businesses who do not possess a CFO, Controller, or finance department.
